Zora: A Feminist Publication
Zora is a bi-annual publication put our in partnership with Arthur Newspaper. Zora seeks to highlight the voices of women and trans people living in Peterborough, in honor of trailblazing feminist author Zora Neale Hurston. Since our inception, the Centre has made it a priority to support the art and creative pursuits of women and trans people, dating back to the 1990s when The Trent Women Centre would publish "Lilith" and "Queerlines" to amplify the voices of women and queer people in our community. As time went on, our name and our values have evolved to better represent our community and as a result, we've changed our publication from Lilith to Zora.
We accept submissions of creative writing, fiction, poetry, autobiographical, political rants, manifestos, short stories, articles or anything else of this nature. We are currently working to put up an electronic archive of all previous submissions to Zora, Lilith and Queerlines.
Due to publication costs, only a limited number of visual art submissions can be accepted, however we encourage all submissions. Photography, both black and white and color, will be considered as well as drawings, painting and scans or photographs of physical artworks. Please try to submit your images in the highest resolution possible.
The fall edition of Zora is published the week of November 20 to honor the Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR) and the spring edition of Zora is published in Arthur Newspaper the week of March 8 in honor of International Women's Day (IWD). Please keep all submission to 850 words maximum and poetry submissions to a maximum of 3 pages (8.5 x 11) for formatting purposes. Please send all submissions as a PDF or Doc.x document to firstname.lastname@example.org!
